Punta Cana International Airport registers the highest accumulated increase in tourist arrivals.
The Punta International Airport received through its facilities 65.3% of non-resident foreign tourists during the period January-April 2016 who have arrived in the Dominican Republic, followed in order of importance by Las Américas International Airport, José Francisco Peña Gómez. with 16% and the Gregorio Luperón International Airport in Puerto Plata in (10.6%), while the terminals of La Romana, Cibao, La Isabela and El Catey de Samaná, together received 8.1% of the total number of non-resident foreign visitors .
The report of the Central Bank of the Dominican Republic (BCRD) highlights that the Punta Cana International Airport registered the largest accumulated increase in the arrival of tourists, 43,734 additional travelers, which in relative terms represented an increase of 3.8%, followed by the terminal from Las Américas (27,120), Puerto Plata (12,721) El Catey in Samaná (8,775), and La Romana with 5,535 more travelers compared to the first quarter of 2015.
Profile of non-resident aliens
During the first four months of 2016, 95.0% of tourists reported that the main reason for their visit to the country was recreation. Likewise, 93.1% reported that they used hotel establishments as their accommodation option. Regarding the age of the visitors, 54.8% oscillates between the range of 21 to 49 years, while in relation to gender, 50.5% corresponds to male and 49.5% to female.
